Meeting Minutes for Saturday March 11th, 2017
10:00 Dr. Bruce's talks about the differences between:
Word Recognition vs Natural Language Processing
Face Detection vs Face Recognition
Path Planning vs Path Following
Path Following: Line Following vs A* Point Following
State: Another name for Context, Functions vs Methods, Methods operate on Objects which provide context or State
Methods: are functions that are aware of the state of the situation. Context becomes important. For example if you want to find our the area of a circle or a triangle, the method would treat these differently because it looks at the context.
REST: Representation State Transfer
API: Application Program Interface
A RESTful API is a stateless API that uses HTTP requests to GET, PUT, POST and DELETE data

Contest: Best Use of Voice Commands in Robotics
1:06 We had two participants give demos of voice commands.
- Bob Barboza brought his NAO robot and gave a demo of voice interaction between NAO and a human. You can visit Bob's projects at kidstalkradiola.com/
- Walter Martinez demonstrated a free Android app called PopPet that he adapted for his Robotics++ platform. It allows him to control his robot with his Android phone and also send voice commands to move it.

Show-N-Tell
1:40 Carl from teletoyland.com/ demonstrated his latest project. Check out the online projects you can control remotely from a web browser. There is also a collection of great instructables www.instructables.com/tag/type-id/keyword-TeleToyland/
1:52 Thomas - showed us some new small robot hands he assembled. Thomas also demonstrated some of the progress he has made with Amazon Alexa.
2:00 Rob showed us his custom made remote control prop like the one in the movie Back to the Future
2:06 Walter Martinez - talked about how he programmed an app using the MIT App Inventor ai2.appinventor.mit.edu to control his robotics platform
You can download the Arduino code and just copy the v3_control.apk to your Android phone.
