Color Line Following Contest Rules
RSSC color-line following will be a contest similar to previous line following contests, but now robot will need to detect changing line colors along the course. Any type of autonomous robot is welcome to participate in this event. The task will be for a robot to follow a course starting with a black line, then at a junction travel down the red line, then travel down a blue line, then travel down a green line, without human intervention after the start button is pressed. (This color sequence is stated in advance so programmers don’t have to re-program.)
Advanced setup:
White tiles (12"x12") (with color electrical tape) will be placed randomly in a matrix on the floor by a non-contestant. On these tiles will be strands of ¾” color electrical tape to make a route beginning with black, then red, then blue and then green for a robot to follow. A junction may have up to 4 colors to choose from. Here is ‘one possible example’ of the course.

Judging the Contest
Color Sample
- Observe that the robot detects and follows the course where the robot travels on or near the line.
- The robot proceeds from a black line to a red line to a blue line to a green line. ( 20 points)
- Time limit is 5 minutes, or until judges decide progress is not being made.
- Bonus points for robot automatically stopping at the end of the last color line (green circle). (10 points)
- Bonus points if the robot detects and communicates to the judges that robot detected a color (such as color leds, audible sounds, visual display etc) (10 points)
- As a tie breaker, the fastest robot to complete the course. (10 points)
