Robotics Society of Southern California 2018 Vice President and CSULB.edu student Benjamin Partida participated in the NASA JPL Community College Aerospace Scholars challenges and won first place!
About the Community College Aerospace Scholars per Ben: It all starts by taking a 5 week class given by NASA. The class consists mostly on NASA history and space missions. There are many quizzes and one large final project. for the final project you are given 3 options, the first 2 options are for people who don't have an engineering background, they consist of the planning of a mission to Mars (basically a long essay). The 3rd option is for those who have an engineering background, I did this option. For the 3rd option you have to design a unique rover (not a copy of current rovers) and all the equipment needed for the rover to do some kind of science experiment on mars. You have to include CAD drawings of everything and detailed descriptions of every component as well as what kind of scientific data you are seeking.
If you score above 90% in the class you get consider for the NCAS onsite experience. This is where they send you to some NASA center for the 4 day robotics challenge. Dates: July 9th to July 12th (4 days).
